4th of July Holiday Weekend

4thofJulyDBacks.jpgHere it is, 4th of July weekend of 2008…this year is going fast and the baseball season going even faster it seems. Maybe that’s just my thoughts. You know, I should have enjoyed the 4th of July game my friend and I saw vs. the Padres on Friday night, but I didn’t really. First of all the game wasn’t that great and we lost. Second, I got the news during batting practice that my favourite player on the team, Jeff Salazar, was designated for assignment that afternoon. That news ripped through me like a train going at full speed. I was in shock, devastation, anger, and hurt all at once. Daron felt bad and gave me a hug, telling me that things would be okay and that Jeff would be bound to playing again, even if it’s not here in Arizona, but it’s just NOT the same. Jeff and I became friends this season and he’s an awesome guy. We hit it off so well and we keep in touch via email when we aren’t able to see each other. Try having YOUR favourite player go through this and see how you’d feel, especially if you became close with that player! It’s like having your best friend move clear acrossed the country…I’ve been down that road with one of my very best friends…it’s hard!

But, I do have some positive highlights to share from that night:

April_Scott.jpgI did get to see an old friend who is now with the Padres…Scott Hairston. Yet another guy who is upbeat and always has a smile. The last time my friend and I had seen Scott was during Spring Training this year at Padres/Mariners Fan Fest in Peoria. We had met Scott’s dad Jerry Hairston Senior that day…just as nice a guy as his youngest son too!

Another highlight was visiting our friend Tricia who works at the ballpark. She was working the Diamond Level entrance to Friday’s Front Row that night so we took a moment to get a picture with her:

And as we walked on the concourse headed back to our seats after the visit with Tricia, we stopped to get these pictures of me by the display case poster of my favourite player:

And of course, what’s 4th of July without fireworks:

There you have it folks. Another holiday in the books…and my next game will be July 19th…70′s Night @ Chase Field. Hopefully my next game post will be a bit more upbeat.

Another Day In Paradise…

I spent my day today at work. I know, not the most fun place to be on a Saturday but hey, the hours I put in today will come in handy come Thursday, and I will be getting out of work early that day, so not all is lost ;)

Now I am home, listening to the Diamondbacks/Marlins game via radio. Perfect way for me to end my day, but what would make it better would be the Diamondbacks WINNING the game ;) One of my favourites, Augie Ojeda, is playing tonight. I love watching Augie play. He’s a total scrapper on the infield!

Greetings Baseball Fans!

Jeff&I2.jpgArizona Diamondbacks outfielder & awesome guy Jeff Salazar with me after a game…this is one of my favourite pictures…and one of my favourite players…ever! Jeff is one of many players I saw come up through the Colorado Rockies organization through the years…so you can imagine my reaction when I found out that the Diamondbacks picked him up a year ago! I live in Arizona these days so having Jeff here with the hometown team makes me happy, as I get to see him play more often :)

It’s bittersweet for me when the Diamondbacks & Rockies take each other on since I dig both teams. It’s one of those series where it doesn’t matter to me who wins, just that I am there to see them both and enjoy some baseball. I know what you’re probably thinking…”How in the world can you be a fan of BOTH teams?” For me, that is all too easy. Like I said, my Rockies were and still are my first love in baseball, but it’s hard NOT to love the Diamondbacks, being that I live in Arizona these days, and also,I spent my first summer here in AZ as an usher/ticket taker at Bank One Ballpark aka Chase Field, so rooting on the Diamondbacks has never been hard for me. Plus, my friends and I attended the first 2 games of the 2001 World Series here in Arizona…a very special time I will never forget!

Last season, the Rockies made it to their first-ever World Series, and despite the outcome of being swept, I am glad they made it and hope they will make it back to the Fall Classic again soon.
